In 2004, Karen graduated from the University of Sheffield with Honours. After vocational training in general practice, she returned to the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield, to pursue posts in Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry (including Paediatrics). Here Karen also undertook research, which she presented at departmental, regional and national meetings.

In 2008, Karen moved closer to home, to Birmingham Dental Hospital, to take up jobs in Oral Surgery, Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, which also included teaching and mentoring roles. Her exposure to the multi-disciplinary, evidence-based approach to complex dental treatments sparked her interest in both surgical and restorative dentistry, which she took back into general practice and on to pursue further education.

Thus in 2017, she was awarded an MClinDent with Merit, in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics from King’s College London, followed by a ‘One-to-One’ Certificate in Implantology from the University of Sheffield in 2018.

Since 2020, Karen’s clinical practice has been wholly focused on implant and restorative dentistry, with a special interest in soft and hard tissue grafting and complex case management, brining both a wealth of experience and a wonderful balance to a male dominated field.
